Foods Alive first sprouted in late 2002 with Michael and Ellen Moor and their son Matt (and his wife Tammy) Alvord. How these two couples reached the health food arena take different routes, but have equally great endings! The first 2 paragraphs below tell how we were brought even closer together by the natural foods idea.


Michael and Ellen, in 2002, visited the Creative Health Institute in Hodunk, Michigan in search of answers to complex health questions. What they found were simple answers and amazing people. "The Wheatgrass Place" as its refered to by those who stay, is a natural health learning center which provides a natural program of body purification, nutrition and rejuvenation through the use of fresh raw fruits, vegetables, juices, nuts.
After enjoying their raw buffet (served free every Sunday) and enjoying some splendid little crackers, Michael began asking for these “Flax Crackers” at local health food stores. The look on the store owners face was one of confusion, no one had ever heard of a flax cracker! So Ellen started making them at home for the family.


Matt and Tammy, in 2002, had a daughter. We thought we were doing a great job of providing a healthy diet for mother and child....wow were we wrong! She was always spitting up, and not just a little, she would ruin her outfit and the outfit of whoever was holding her! We started researching on the web, trying to figure out why...and after hours of searching and reading, we realized that A) She was lactose intolerant, and B) our diet was horrible! We switched her to a soy formula, removed milk and butter from our diet and our daughter stopped ruining her clothes! And so began their journey away from the SAD (standard american diet) and into the wonderful world of Organic, raw, natural foods. Hospitals and drugs have became a thing of the past for us, we had our son at home in 2005 and all of our children are healthy, bright, eager, and active!


Micheal, Ellen, Matt, and Tammy all agreed that these flax crackers that Ellen was making had amazing potential, so we launched Foods Alive, a family owned and operated company that cares deeply about what is in the food we and our families are eating. In 2003, Foods Alive introduced the first in its line of dehydrated Certified Organic Golden Flax Crackers with flavors including, Italian Zest, Mexican Harvest, Maple & Cinnamon, and Regular. Using only the finest certified organic, vegan, kosher, and gluten free ingredients, we created simple functional whole food that everyone could enjoy.
Matt began sampling these flax crackers out to health food stores across the country and it didn’t take long for the phone to start ringing with orders. By 2004, we expanded our line to include Onion Garlic and Carob Mint, in late 2005 we introduced Hemp and BBQ, and in 2007 we added Mustard. With a full array of flavors to choose from, customers from as far as Alaska and Hawaii were calling for our delicious and healthy live food snacks!


In early 2006, Michael got a notion to start pressing the golden flaxseed into oil. Everyone felt that the golden flaxseed had a superior taste to the brown flaxseed that was already on the market and shortly after trying this delicious flax oil dressing that Tammy was making, Michael said “This is amazing! We should start making this for everyone!” So, Michael started experimenting with different combinations of herbs and spices blended into the flax oil to create the first Organic Gourmet Gold Flax Oil Dressings: Mike’s Special (a mouth-watering blend of paprika and garlic) and Sweet Mustard (a delightful combination of Agave and Mustard) to go along with our buttery tasting High Lignan (100% Pure Gold Flax oil). Soon, our flax oil creations were spreading all across the country and changing the flax oil market from a boring supplement into a delicious dining experience! People could finally start enjoying there daily dose of flax oil, and there was finally a healthy salad dressing on the shelf!
